One minute it was summer fun life, then before we knew it was all about back to school. Every other conversation now involves statements such as “new semester” this or “school supplies” that. Gearing up for back to school can be extremely overwhelming but here are a few quick key tips to help you transition from Holiday happiness to a steady back to school routine.

Tip 1.

Organize:

Get your To do list/check list in place, If you are returning to school ensure that you have a clear understanding of all the items that will help you survive the semester. Make notes of important dates, when is the first day of class? what time and what room? Get your supplies in advance,Textbooks bags, pens, pencils, erasers, highlighters and choose a bag with enough compartments so that all items have a specific place that they belong. Shop for back to school gear ahead of the crowd.

Tip 2.

Breakfast :

Keep your breakfast simple and healthy during back to school time. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day - do not skip breakfast. Instead of Chips and Soda (this I have seen recently) Opt for hard boiled eggs, Cereal and Milk, Oatmeal or keep it simple and have some fruits. A wholesome breakfast will not only help you to concentrate better, but it helps you to retain more information. If your school day begins in the afternoon, you should still have a good breakfast and reach for a healthy snack such as a Banana or Mixed nuts before your class begins.

Tip 3.

Consistency:

Set mandatory wake up and bed times. By setting a specific sleep schedule it will help to maintain your body’s internal clock. You will fall asleep easier and wake up feeling great, not feeling sleep deprived will result in a better school day. If falling a asleep and waking up the same time every day is challenging, you can give yourself a week to try to create a routine. You can do it!

Tip 4.

Communication:

Have frequent conversations about school; talking to your partner or friend about your day can be a stress reliever. A little conversation can definitely go a long way. Seek advice on things you do not understand, do not be afraid to approach your teacher/professor. Keep in mind that your main goal is to become more knowledgeable by any means necessary.

 Tip 5.

Effort:

I know a lot of people who say that school is not “their thing” and I don’t judge them. Everyone is different and have different goals in life however, education is important on so many different levels that I cannot explain here. Do not give up, I understand from personal experience that many things can get in between you getting educated to the point that would be satisfactory to you but just keep pushing. All is asked of you is your best, and your best will be different every day so do not get discouraged just keep swimming.
