Named one of the best books of the year by The New York times, Born a crime chronicles Trevor Noah’s life from birth to early adulthood in South Africa.
The author, Trevor Noah famous today for hosting “The daily show” reveals details of this childhood, dealing with a Post –Apartheid society. A central character in this story is Noah’s mother Patricia. Patricia teaches Noah lifelong lessons about courage, discipline and love. Noah struggles to find himself while growing up with a white father and a black mother in South Africa in a time when interracial relationships were considered illegal.
The most intriguing part of the book for me was when Patricia threw Noah out of a moving car “it felt like a dream until the pain hit”. FYI this part of the book will have your heart racing.
On my list this book is definitely a favorite, it made me laugh, it made me cry twice! and last but not least it made me hopeful. This book came highly recommended by a friend who stated that on a long road trip this specific Audio-book was played for the majority of the ride. I figured if two people can listen to this continuously for hours then it must be captivating, and man was I right.
Happy reading/listening ~
