Summer Skin tings
Summer breeze makes us feel fine, but let's face it, the summer sun has our skin crying out for help. While we are out and about living our best summer lives our skin is getting a dose of sunburn, dehydration, acne and heat rash.
It is always recommended that you adjust your skincare routine according to the changing seasons (men come back here; I'm talking to you guys too). For optimal summer care, we recommend you follow the 5 steps listed below.
Step 1. Cleansing: It is recommended that you cleanse your skin no less than twice a day. Ensure your cleanser is of good quality and specific to your skin type. If you have oily skin it is best that you do not buy a cleanser that will over dry your skin- Yeah I said it. Let me explain why; our body produces oil to keep the skin soft and moisturized. Whenever oily skin gets extremely dry, it forces your glands into oil producing overdrive. Any extreme will be a problem for your skin whether it's too dry or too oily. I suggest a mild clarifying cleanser AND a moisturizing cleanser -Yeah I said it, again. Two cleansers, let me explain why, again. Your skin will be different at different times, you will be dehydrated on somedays and need the moisture and you will also be oily on other days and need the clarifying cleanser. Just do a quick skin check before you enter the shower, touch your face, how does it feel? Have you been drinking enough water? Are you looking radiant? Are you looking tired? All these things can help you determine what cleanser to use in your shower session. You can even choose to clarify in the morning and use the moisturizing cleanser at nights.
Step 2. Toning: (Men come back here) toning can help you as well, and Toning basically helps to restore the Ph. balance of your skin. It removes additional dirt that may have been missed with the cleansing process. It will help to shrink pores and refresh your skin. This step is not mandatory but it adds an extra layer of awesomeness to your routine and it prepares your face to relax.
Step 3. Moisturizing: Moisturizing should be a religious part of your skincare routine; your skin needs moisture to perform at its best. The best time to moisturize is fresh out of your shower while your pores are open are still open. Moisturizing prevents your skin from becoming too dry or too oily. Oily skin nation, I know you will be tempted to skip this step but don't because oily skin needs moisture too. I have oily skin, and I have tried to avoid moisturizing and it only made things worse.
Step 4. Protection: protecting your skin is common sense, but you know what some people say, common sense isn't that common. Use sunscreen as often as possible if heading outdoors. Sunscreen combines products that help to prevent UV rays from the sun from reaching your skin. UV rays can damage your skin and age it prematurely as well as cause skin cancer.
Step 5. Be extra: Skincare is only half of what was listed, yes it’s cool to have a great routine but what is needed to put the "hammer in the coffin" is good nutrition. So be extra with it! Drink extra water; eat extra fruits and veggies, vegetables like spinach, broccoli, celery and carrots will have your skin glowing from the inside out. Daily green smoothies are a godsend for the skin. I always see a dramatic change in my skin when I eat more greens. Supplements such as iron, vitamin c and zinc are rumored to work wonders for skin, (please consult your doctor before trying anything)
If you want to be "extra extra": You can add tools to your routine. Items such as a Scrub sponge, a Clarasonic or facial scrub may add an extra humph to your skin texture. And if you want to be all the way extra you can add a blast of facial mist to top off your routine.
Remember that the countdown towards summers end has already started, if you haven’t achieved your best summer skin as of yet get to it!! I know you’ve already started taking all those darn #summerselfies.
